Four times in this passage Moses warns the Israelites not to forget the Lord due to being caught up with luxury. Once they get in and start conquering the promised land they are going to take over cities and houses which they did not build. Therefore, Moses says, ‘Do not forget the Lord.’

I forget the Lord throughout the day because I have an agenda that I want to keep.

I forget the Lord throughout the day because I got all my needs met.

I forget the Lord throughout the day because I don’t know what it means to remember the Lord throughout the day.

I forget the Lord throughout the day because ________________________ (you fill in the blank)

We are all guilty of forgetting about God throughout the day. Spend February 24 with the thought that God is right next to you all day.

Beautiful passage found in Deuteronomy 4:33-39

33 Has a people ever heard God’s voice speaking from the fire as you have, and lived?

34 Or has a god [ever] attempted to go and take a nation as his own out of [another] nation, by trials, signs, wonders, and war, by a strong hand and an outstretched arm, by great terrors, as the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

35 You were shown [these things] so that you would know that the Lord is God; there is no other besides Him.

36 He let you hear His voice from heaven to instruct you. He showed you His great fire on earth, and you heard His words from the fire.

37 Because He loved your fathers, He chose their descendants after them and brought you out of Egypt by His presence and great power,

38 to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you and to bring you in and give you their land as an inheritance, as is now taking place.

39 Today, recognize and keep in mind that the Lord is God in heaven above and on earth below; there is no other.

‘The Lord is God; there is no other besides Him.”

How the Word of God has stood the test of time.

How the tomb is still proven to be empty.

WE were shown [these things] so that we would know that the Jesus is God; there is no other besides Him.

After reading these chapters you begin to wonder, ‘what if Moses didn’t listen to the advice of sending spies into the land of Canaan?’, ‘what if he just said, we don’t need spies we got this battle!’

Oh the ‘What If Game’. It’s a tough game to play. What if I would have tried harder in school? or what if I would have not dated that girl? or what if I truly did try to see things from parents perspective?

As we think about our life, we can ask numerous what if questions and I am sure we always will be able to. The biggest one that I pray nobody has to ask is, ‘What if I truly sought after Jesus?’

So is it true of us right now…are we in our lives truly seeking after Jesus?

I want to! I do.

As I have learned from previous studies, it is going to be important for us to remember moving forward, God’s command to Moses about what to do once crossing over the Jordan River:

Numbers 33:50-56:

God spoke to Moses on the Plains of Moab at Jordan-Jericho: “Tell the People of Israel, When you cross the Jordan into the country of Canaan, drive out the native population before you, destroy their carved idols, destroy their cast images, level their worship-mounds so that you take over the land and make yourself at home in it; I’ve given it to you. It’s yours.

“Divide up the land by lot according to the size of your clans: Large clans will get large tracts of land, small clans will get smaller tracts of land. However the lot falls, that’s it. Divide it up according to your ancestral tribes.

“But if you don’t drive out the native population, everyone you let stay there will become a cinder in your eye and a splinter in your foot. They’ll give you endless trouble right in your own backyards. And I’ll start treating you the way I planned to treat them.”

So Moses was the most humble man on the planet right? Right. However, he knew the value of having a leader; someone to organize, delegate, and shepherd (Numbers 27). That is a difficult thing to do, be a leader and be humble. Once we get that upper hand its easy to allow that power go to our head.

I’ll never forget the humble leader that showed me for the first time how amazing it is to follow Jesus’ lead. His name is Joel Beers. He is still till this day a humble leader. Thanks man!

Do you know a humbe godly leader? If so, thank the Lord for them. If you don’t, pray for God to direct one to your path.

To me Phinehas in this story plays the role of ‘bad to the bone guy’. Anyone that is willing to strut through town openly about to commit a sin has killed their conscience. I am not saying that it is better to try and hide/cover-up your sin. I am simply speaking about the matter of the heart. When we come to the point where we are boastful about our sins, there is a problem in the heart or conscience. We have allowed the devil to tell us that a particular sin issue is either not a sin or shouldn’t be a sin. We have bought into the lie of the creator of lies.

I can recall my days in high school where I had some horrible taste in music. It didn’t bother me that I played it out loud in front of others. I even once played this detestable song in front of my whole family in a car ride. Not a good idea. I had allowed Satan to convince me that the lyrics didn’t effect me.

Sin. It will be around till Jesus returns…knowing this how can we effectively mortify as much as we can? Not only for ourselves but for the respect of others.

Moses’ sister has just passed away and the Israelites are grumbling and complaining again. You know during difficult times it is not always easy to respond the right way. And Moses did just that, he let his anger get the best of him and shouted, “must WE (Moses and Aaron) bring you water out of this rock!”. Moses and Aaron had no power on their own to make water from a rock. That power belongs to God.

This story reminds me of Hannah in I Samuel 1, she is already upset that she has not been able to bear a child and on top of that, her rival or husbands other wife verbal abuses her non-stop. How does Hannah respond? She gets down on her knees and talks to God about her problems. No problem is to big for God. Whether if it’s life circumstances, loss of a loved one, you fill in the blank. There is NO problem to big for God.

One of Jesus’ most stern warnings to those living in the last days was to be careful of ‘false teachers’.

The Israelite community had it clearly displayed before them which human was called by God to lead them. The Israelites in this passage witnessed the earth opening up and swallowing those who wanted to lead a rebellion against Moses. The community also witnessed 12 staffs of the 12 leaders of Israel taken into a tent and the next morning Aaron’s staff had buds and almonds forming on his staff while the others were still just plain ol’ staffs. Two clear incidents where God brought clarity about who was called to lead the Israelites.

In the ‘last days’ that we are living in now there are a lot of teachers. I am a teacher. On Sundays I sit in church and listen to a teacher. From where I live I can see 3 church steeples all with teachers inside. So who’s teaching the right stuff.

Here is the message that a false teacher has trouble teaching. Jesus is God’s Son, He was sent to live a perfect life and die for you and me. After His death He was buried, yet three days later He rose from the grave and soon after ascendended into heaven to sit at the right hand of His Father. Don’t worry He will come back. Before He does, you must repent of your sins and confess that Jesus is who He said He is.

We know this because Peter and the apostles were eye witnesses of this!
